In Maranello (and not only there) everybody knows that Ferrari
manufactures engines and chassis for the F1 racing competitions.
Not everybody knows, instead, that in the same city, just in
front of
the entrance gates of the renowned car manufacturer, Paolo Severi
who
built 125cc and 250cc displacement engines that he is still
developing,
also decided to manufacture a go-kart chassis.
The
goal of this project is to launch on the market a complete
combination (engine and chassis made by the same manufacturer)
at an
accessible price for using in racing competitions.
The
first tests, made in races valid for the Italian Championship,
were
encouraging.
The
debut was on the Rioveggio track where the driver Roberto Montagnani
got a 3° absolute final place.
The
real test for this new engine-chassis combination was Saturday
24
July 2010 on the Pomposa track.
The
result couldn't be better: 2° absolute lap time in qualifications
against 38 opponents; first place in pre-final. In the final
night race,
a great Montagnani crossed the finish line first, undisturbed.
We
can really say that the Severi's red chassis, equipped with
the SGM
engine, is VELOX (VELOCE means FAST in Italian).
Note
that in the KZ1 European championship the SGM engines allowed
the
driver Antonio Piccioni to get a 10° absolute place despite
participating to only one race, the Sarno race where he got
a gratifying 5° absolute place.
